You don’t want to just follow the crowd and miss out on the real deal.
That’s why having a guide who can show you around and help you “feel” the city is key.
It’s way better than just being a slave to a blogger’s list.
Rome is like Netflix
Rome, it’s a show.
With Netflix, you have access to a wide range of movies and shows, and you’re never at a loss for something to watch.
Rome offers an abundance of activities and sights to see, from ancient ruins like the Colosseum and the Pantheon, to world-renowned museums like in the Vatican (It’s the smallest country in the world, and it’s inside Rome), to charming neighborhoods like Trastevere.
Just like a Netflix account, Rome is always updating and refreshing its offerings.
It has a rich history and culture, and it’s always something new to discover, whether it’s an ancient ruin that was just excavated or a new art exhibit at a gallery.
Also, like Netflix, Rome can be both comforting and exciting, it can have a sense of familiarity and novelty, it is always changing and adapting, and has something for everyone.
You can’t see all of Rome in one trip.
So, don’t stress yourself trying to fit everything into one trip, take it easy and enjoy the journey.

Top Things To Do in Rome
The ancient Romans knew well that sacrifices must be made.
I mean that you need to invest your time and patience if you want to see the most iconic sights on Earth.
Missing them would be a regret. Despite the crowds, it’s an experience worth having.
It’s important to remember that the small inconvenience of waiting in lines is a small price to pay for the many wonders that Rome has to offer.
The Timeless Beauty of Roman Heart
Your first day in Rome and your body is still trying to figure out what time zone it’s in.
But have no fear!
Take a walk, soak up the chaotic energy of the city and fuel up on espresso because let’s be real, you’re gonna need it to keep up with all the gelato you’ll be eating.
First stop, Piazza di Spagna. Home to Bernini’s “Fontana della Barcaccia” and the famous Spanish Steps, it’s one of the city’s icons and a prime spot for people-watching. Bonus points if you visit during spring when the steps are covered in azaleas.
Next up, the Trevi Fountain. Standing at over 26 metres tall, this fountain pumps out millions of litres of water a day. Make sure to throw in a coin over your shoulder to wish for a return to Rome and get there early or late to avoid the crowds.
The Pantheon is a must-see with its jaw-dropping temple built by Hadrian. The dome remains the largest unreinforced concrete dome in the world and the hole in the top is a sight to behold, especially when it rains inside. Entrance is free but on weekends, you’ll need to book a slot on the website.
Last but not least, Piazza Navona. With its three ornamental fountains, domed church, and handsome palazzi, it’s hard to beat the heart-stopping beauty of this baroque masterpiece. The ring-side cafes and street artists only add to the spectacle. Just a heads up, I personally don’t recommend eating on the square, but it’s a great spot for a drink.
Free Masterpieces of Michelangelo, Caravaggio, & Bernini
Many churches in Rome are open to the public and free to enter.
These churches have served as museums for centuries and house some of Italy’s most renowned masterpieces, such as
- Bernini’s St. Peter’s Baldachin (to learn more about the art work and the architecture of the Basilica I would recommend getting an audio guide)
- Michelangelo’s Moses (It took Sigmund Freud 30 pages to describe this master work. A marble structure as breathtaking as the entire church within which it stands. Free entrance.)
- Caravaggio’s famous paintings (Interior full of sculptures, paintings, in the middle of Piazza del Popolo Square. Also a must see for any Dan Brown fan, Bernini decorated Chigi Chapel)
These churches are worth visiting during your stay in Rome

How to Eat Like the Romans: Contemporary Rome Eating Routines
Listen up, foodies!
Take note of all the delicious dishes I recommend and don’t hesitate to try them out.
Trust me, your taste buds will thank you!
For a truly Roman meal, visit a loud pizzeria or a welcoming neighborhood trattoria, where you’ll find locals indulging in thin, crispy pizzas, humble pasta dishes and cool white wines from the nearby Castelli Romani hills.
One of the best places to explore these local favorites is in the charming neighborhood of Trastevere, a short walk over the river from the historic center.
With its medieval lanes, hidden piazzas, and pastel-hued palazzi, it’s home to hundreds of bars, cafes, trattorias, and restaurants catering to a nightly crowd of up-for-it Romans and visitors.
Rome is renowned for its traditional pasta dishes such as gricia, carbonara, amatriciana, and cacio e pepe, as well as its meat-based dishes like Lamb Chops, Saltimbocca alla Romana (veal with ham and sage leaves), and Oxtail Stew.
The city is also famous for its street food, which is not served in food trucks but in small eateries spread throughout the city.
Some popular street foods include “pizza al taglio”, a type of pizza served by the slice, supplì, filetto di baccalà, fiore di zucca, and the latest food craze, the trapizzino.
Jewish Food in Rome
Because of the Jewish community’s presence in Rome for over 2000 years, Roman traditional dishes are heavily influenced by their Kashrut, so much so that some well-known Roman recipes are actually Jewish ones, such as Carciofi alla Giudia. Some unique types of Roman-Jewish dishes can be found in select parts of the city, particularly in the Jewish Ghetto.
To finish off your meal, what could be better than a gelato followed by a shot of world-beating coffee?
With this travel guide, you’ll experience the best of Rome’s dining scene and indulge in authentic local favorites.
